Similarity-Based Sampling: Testing a Model of Price Psychophysics
نویسنده
چکیده
How is the perceived attractiveness of a price influenced by the context or sample within which it appears? Current models of price judgment are often based on psychophysical models of the contextual judgment of non-economic stimuli. These existing models accommodate a number of contextual effects, but do not allow for the possibility, motivated by independent psychophysical data, that the weighting of comparison items within a sample may vary with their similarity to the target. Here we address this issue by using results from two experiments to estimate the parameters of the GEMS (Generalized Exemplar Model of Sampling) model. In both Experiment 1, when prices are simultaneously presented, and in Experiment 2, when prices are presented sequentially, some evidence for similarity-based sampling is obtained.

Variations in the magnitude of attentional capture: testing a two-process model.
Although large variations in the magnitude of attentional capture have been evidenced across a wide range of studies and paradigms (see Burnham, 2007, for a review), the nature of these variations is unclear. In the present study, we used a modified spatial cuing task to address two related issues. In the first experiment, we explored the hypothesis that the magnitude of attentional capture var...

The purpose of this study was to examine the brand loyalty and types of customers (diversified and diehard customers) model in the Iranian sportswear industry, which was conducted on a case-by-case basis in bodybuilding clubs in Fars province. The method of this research was correlation which was done in the form of structural equations. 350 people participated in this study voluntarily. The ...
متن کاملConstrained sampling experiments reveal principles of detection in natural scenes.
A fundamental everyday visual task is to detect target objects within a background scene. Using relatively simple stimuli, vision science has identified several major factors that affect detection thresholds, including the luminance of the background, the contrast of the background, the spatial similarity of the background to the target, and uncertainty due to random variations in the propertie...
متن کاملA Glance at Psychophysics Software Programs
Visual stimulation with precise control of stimulus has transformed the field of psychophysics since the introduction of personal computers. Luminance and chromatic features of stimulus, timing, and position of the stimulus are the main features that could be defined using programs written specifically for psychophysical experiments. In this manuscript, software used for the psychophysical expe...
متن کاملA Comparative Study between a Pseudo-Forward Equation (PFE) and Intelligence Methods for the Characterization of the North Sea Reservoir
This paper presents a comparative study between three versions of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) algorithms and a pseudo-forward equation (PFE) to characterize the North Sea reservoir (F3 block) based on seismic data. According to the statistical studies, four attributes (energy, envelope, spectral decomposition and similarity) are known to be useful as fundamental attributes in ...
